In honour of 35 birthday that Fernando Alonso  celebrated yesterday (29th July) lets remember the most memorable moments of his Formula 1 career. Started in 2001 Alonso managed to end the  five year domination of Michael Schumacher and create the name that  for sure classified him in one of the legends of the sport.
By now Fernando won two world titles, wins in 30 races and scored 22 pole positions.

 2001. FORMULA 1 DEBUT - MINARDI

Fernando Alonso debuted in Formula1 in Australian Grand Prix in 2001 driving Minardi. Even though he finished the season with zero points, his notable performances definitely influenced the further course of his career. He became test driver in 2002 for Renault, and next year he earned the seat in Formula1 for same team, together with Jarno Trulli as a teammate.

2005. FIRST WORLD TITLE

After finishing the Brasilian GP on the third position, Fernando won his first world championship title, leaving behind on the table Kimi Raikkonen and Michael Schumacher. He won 7 remarkable races in that season which contributed to win the championship

2006. SECOND WORLD TITLE

Fernando started 2006 campaign with 6 victories from first 9 races and that definitely was huge impact to the rest of the season, which was marked with rivalry with Michael Schumacher who also won 7 races. Winning the second world title,h e became the youngest ever double champion.

2007.  MOVE TO McLAREN AND EUROPEAN GRAND PRIX

Fernando moved in 2007 to McLaren together with  rookie Lewis Hamilton as his teammate. First victory for new team was at Malaysian GP, but very memorable race was  at Nürburgring, where he won in a race that was red flagged and restarted due to weather conditions.

2008.  RETURN TO RENAULT AND SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX

After unsuccessful season and failing to win world championship  at McLaren, Fernando returned to Renault, who was not nothing alike the team before. But anyway  he won two race in Japan and Singapore after he started from 15th on the grid.

2010.  START OF FERRARI ERA AND BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX

Fernando joined Ferrari at the end of 2009, and straight on his debut won the race in Bahrain, becoming the fifth  driver to win for Ferrari on his debut.
During the 2010 season he was face to face for championship title with Sebastian Vettel, but mistake at the last race at Abu Dhabi cost him his third title, only by one point.

2011. BRITISH GRAND PRIX

British GP was the first Ferrari victory of the season, and at the same time the only one Fernando achieved in 2011, after a mistake from the Red Bull mechanics in a pit stop for Vettel, which  gave Alonso the lead, which he maintained until the end of the race.
The race was followed by ban of  blown diffuser systems, which was perceived to give Ferrari an advantage over its rivals.

2012. EUROPEAN GRAND PRIX

His ability to compensate the low grid position became visible at Valencia for European GP, where starting 11th, Fernando won, after Hamilton and Vettel both retired  from the race.
During the 2012, Fernando maintained to win the another two races in Malaysia and Germany. But that was not enough to wn the title, losing again from Vettel, now only for 3 points behind, after finishing second in last race of the season.

2014. HUNGARIAN GP

The best result Fernando achieved in 2014 was the victory in Hungary after passing Ricciardo couple laps until the end. Also that year he only scored one podium and that was in China finishing third.

2015. RETURN TO McLAREN

The new McLaren era did not started that great for Fernando after crash he had during pre season test, which forced him to skip the first race of the season in Australia. In 2015 he managed to score  only 11 points  after 10th place on British GP and 5th place he managed to take at Hungary GP.

2016. RUSSIAN AND MONACO GRAND PRIX

Altough that the 2016 season started with heavy crash, that forced Fernando not to participate in first two race, he managed to improve bad  impression from 2015. First points he scored at Russia GP, finishing 6th and also continued to score points finishing 5th in Monaco GP.

When you think about German GP, you probably  first  remember  that Marc Marquez is the actual king of Sachsenring, because he has 6 victories in last six season, which is really impressive. Also Marc achieved to take all the pole positions too. He won three times in a row in Moto GP class (2015, 2014, 2013), twice in Moto2 (2012, 2011) and one time in Mot3 class (2010).
But lets not forget his teammate Dani Pedrosa who also has 6 victories, two in the highest class and last one in 2012.
One of the facts is that Jorge Lorenzo has never won here, and he also has never been on the podium.
Nine time world champion Valentino Rossi last time won here in 2009, and it is the last time Yamaha scored the victory on this circuit.

Sachsenring is definitely not one of the fastest tracks in the calendar, because it is really short, also with  tight corners and a lots of ups and downs, what makes it really difficult for riders. Also most of the curves are on  the left side, and curve no. 11 is the most challenging, because it is quite fast comparing to the rest of the track.

Important news  ahead of this weekend, are that Johann Zarco will be part of Moto GP next year as a Yamaha Tech 3 driver, together with Jonas Folger.

ABOUT THE TRACK

The first race on this circuit was held on 26 May 1927 on an 8.7 km layout on public roads. But Moto GP races where held on another very famous track in Germany Nürburgring, but in  1998, the German motorcycle Grand Prix moved to the Sachsenring.

The track is also know by organizing major motorsport events such as: FIA GT1 World Championship and ADAC GT Masters.

This weekend it is time for  Cataluña  GP, better known as Montmelo, one of my favourite tracks. Well, after very intense race at Mugello, especially last curve, probably one of the best races, since Australia last year, we must be ready to expect all kind of excitement again, i guess.

The news are that Pol Espargaro will not be part of Yamaha Tech 3 next season, and that he is pretty close to sign the deal with KTM, whose second driver Bradley Smith is confirmed earlier.

Also, Pol will be part od Suzuka 8 hours, defending his last year victory together with Alex Lowes, Super Bike driver and Katsuyuki Nakasuga.

ABOUT THE TRACK

When it comes to the track, the circuit was build in 1991, and the first race was at the same year, welcoming F1 drivers. The  first MotoGP race was in 1996, with Carlos Checa as a winner in 500cc class.

Most victories record belongs to Valentino Rossi, who has nine, but none since 2009. Jorge Lorenzo has 5, including one from last year.

Considered one of the best designed circuits, the Circuito de Cataluña won the IRTA ‘Best Grand Prix’ trophy in 2001.

The race will be long 25 laps, with lenght of  4,7km. It is consisted of 13 corners, 5 left and 8 right.

Current circuit record belongs to Repsol Honda driver Marc Marquez with time 1'42.182 accomplished in 2014. Also Marc
is leader at Top speed list with 347.1 from 2015.
Suzuki Ecstar driver Aleix Espargaro holds the fastest lap of the circuit with time 1'40.546.

But this is not the first time, we can see this two teams confronting each other in such a big game. Two years ago, in Lisabon final, victory was celebrated on Cibeles, main place where Real Madrid celebrates its titles in capital of Spain, after dramatic finish and late goal by Sergio Ramos which extended hopes for a title. Extra time was followed by easy domination of Real Madrid, and victory which gave the team 12 years waited Champions League title, more famous as ,,La Decima,,.

This will be 4th time teams will face each other in European matches.

  • First two games were in  1958/59 in European Cup semi-final, where Real Madrid won after interesting games, and headed into 4th in row final and resulting with winning the 4th European Cup trophy.
  • Third game, was after 55 years, and it was in 2014 in Lisabon final. Godin scored first for Atletico (36), but late header by Ramos (93) saved Real Madrid and took them to extra time. Victory came after goals from Bale (110), Marcelo (118) and Cristiano Ronaldo (120).

After really interesting race in Le Mans and so many crushes, this weekend we will join the drivers for extraordinary and one of the races with the best atmosphere in the  MotoGp calendar- Mugello, the state  of Valentino Rossi.

We remember Jorge Lorenzo's last year win and   domination from first to last lap, and  the second and third place went to Andrea Iannone  and Valentino Rossi who at the end catch up the podium after hard fight with Repsol Honda duo and Dovizioso from Ducati.

When we talk about record, in the 22 year long  history, since the races take part at Mugello, Rossi is the driver with the most victories, he scored 7, but  none since 2009, and Jorge Lorenzo is second with 4 wins he achieved in the last 5 years.

The activities will start on Thursday with the press conference, where Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi, Marc Marquez, Maverick Viñales, Danilo Petrucci and Andrea Iannone will take part.

On Friday  we have first practice sessions, following the official qualifications the next day. And Sunday is the race day.

Beside that, very important news are that Dani Pedrosa will stay for the upcoming two years with Repsol Honda, which means 13 years of mutual collaboration.

Just a little reminder, Dani started in 2001 in 125cc class, and he debuted in the premier class in 2006. He has achieved 142 podium finishes for the Honda factory team, more  than any other rider,  and 51 victories.

We may have the  official confirmation that Maverick Viñales, who achieved his first podium in MotoGp in last race  will join Movistar Yamaha next year, because last couple of days there is lot of speculations on that theme.
